Game Night Photos: At Home, With Friends, Mid-Laugh
At home with friends, mid-laugh.

Most social photos on dating apps happen in bars, which narrows what they communicate to one thing: you go out. A table at home with friends and a game on says something different, and for a lot of people more appealing, which is that you have people who come round.
The laugh is the photo. Everything else is set dressing for an expression you can't manufacture on demand, which is why it reads as real.
What to wear
- Home clothes, one notch up: a decent tee or a soft knit
- Nothing formal, which would look bizarre at a kitchen table
- Warm colours, matching the lamp light the room will be lit with
When to shoot it, and the light
Evening under warm lamps rather than the ceiling light. A single side lamp at table height gives everyone a modelled, warm face, while an overhead fitting gives everyone shadows under the eyes.
The mistake that ruins this shot
Everyone lining up and looking at the camera. The moment the table looks at the lens it becomes a group photo, which is the thing this shot exists to replace.
Where it goes in your profile
Fifth or later. Depth and warmth for a set that already has its face photos sorted.
